Dr. Luxbacher is a highly knowledgeable soccer teacher and coach. His background in exercise science allows him to bring the advanced skills of older players to the level of youth coaching. The book is complete in terms of both individual skills and teamplay, but the author’s expertise shows the parent, teacher, or coach how to bring the necessary skills to an elementary level.

Joseph Luxbacher, PhD, has been involved in the sport of soccer as a player and a coach for more than 30 years. A former professional player in the North American Soccer League (NASL) and Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL), he still holds the men’ s soccer scoring records at the University of Pittsburgh for most career goals, most career points, and most goals scored in one game. He was the head men’s soccer coach at the University of Pittsburgh from 1985 through 2015, when he retired from college coaching.

Luxbacher’s college teams have won over 200 times at the Division I level, and he has twice been selected as “Big East Conference Soccer Coach of the Year.” He has authored more than a dozen books and numerous articles on the topics of soccer and peak athletic performance. His various soccer books have sold more than 250,000 copies, and have been translated into Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Spanish, Indonesian, Greek, Malaysian, and Serbian.

Coach Luxbacher is an inductee into the Beadling Sports/Soccer Club Hall of Fame (1995), the Upper St. Clair High School Athletic Hall of Fame (2002), and the Western Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame (2005). He was selected as a “Letterman of Distinction” at the University of Pittsburgh in 2003. Luxbacher holds a doctorate in Health, Physical and Recreation Education.
